Sight Word Sentence Detective

Name:
Date:

Today I am practising: recognizing sight words in connected sentences

1

Read: I see a red hen. Circle I and draw what you see.

2

Read: We can hop. Underline we and act out the sentence.

3

Read: The dog can run. Box the and tell what can run.

4

Read: Come to the rug. Circle come and point where you would go.

5

Read: I like jam. Underline like and draw a food you like.

6

Write one sentence using the, I, or we. Circle the sight word you used.

Grown-up note: Ask your learner to explain one answer in their own words.

For the grown-up

How to teach this page

  1. Step 1Invite one smooth reread after the child identifies the word; do not turn the task into a race.
  2. Step 2Ask a meaning question after every sentence so circling is tied to comprehension.
  3. Step 3If a target is missed, point to it, say it together, and return to the beginning of the sentence.
