Today I am practising: checking sight word spelling in sentences

1

Read: I sea a dog. Circle sea and write see.

2

Read: Wee can hop. Circle Wee and write We.

3

Read: Tha cat is big. Circle Tha and write The.

4

Read: Cum to me. Circle Cum and write Come.

5

Read: I lik jam. Circle lik and write like.

6

Write one sentence using a sight word. Change one letter, then ask an adult to be the editor.

Grown-up note: Ask your learner to explain one answer in their own words.

For the grown-up

How to teach this page

  1. Step 1Tell the child every sentence has one word that needs a repair; do not ask them to hunt for multiple issues.
  2. Step 2Let them read the sentence aloud first, because a word that looks plausible often sounds wrong in context.
  3. Step 3When rewriting, ask for only the repaired word unless copying a full sentence is useful practice.
