Today I am practising: matching printed sight words after brief recall

1

Read the card the. Find and cover the matching word on the mat.

2

Read I. Find I, then say a sentence that starts with it.

3

Read see. Cover see and point to something you can see.

4

Read we. Find we and name two people who could be we.

5

Read go. Cover go and act out the word.

6

Turn all cards face down. Choose one, read it, and find its match without help.

Grown-up note: Ask your learner to explain one answer in their own words.

How to teach this page

  1. Step 1Cut five small word cards from scrap paper, or simply point to the listed words if cutting is not practical.
  2. Step 2Keep the visible set to five so the task rehearses recall without becoming frustrating.
  3. Step 3After each match, use the word in a short spoken sentence to reinforce meaning.
